Perhaps it is fitting that China's oldest merchant bank has its headquarters in the historical Bund district in Shanghai . From our location in a remodeled 102 year-old building, we have seen Shanghai grow into an energetic, thriving and modern metropolis. Operating from China for over a quarter century, ChinaVest has been a catalyst for many of these changes. During this time, we have worked with, or been a financial advisor to, some of the world's largest corporations. In addition, ChinaVest has managed and invested almost half a billion dollars in more than 60 companies in greater China with exits on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Taipei Stock Market, and NASDAQ, as well as 20 strategic sales.
Robert Theleen, ChinaVest's founder, is considered one of the foremost experts on business in China. He began the firm, along with other partners, in the early 1980' s, seeking to create a European-style merchant bank with a Chinese flavor. That original concept created the foundational pillars upon which the firm has grown. Today, we provide financial advisory services, discretionary direct investment and a range of other financial products by leveraging our combination of western financial acumen and our understanding of the Chinese business environment.
